The Awesome Sports Project is about empowering girls and women athletes with their voices and stories. That mission is not carried on by our writers along. It requires collaboration and exchange of thoughts and ideas from all of us! For her final intern project, Allie Morrison wants to engage more of our audience, YOU, in the discussion of current events in girls’ and women’s sports!
I still remember being 6-years-old and seeing the big “10” on the basket and the benches at Seattle Storm’s games, after one decade of inspiring young girls like me. Now, 10 more years later, the WNBA will be celebrating its 20th season this summer. WNBA teams and fans have seen many great athletes come and go, like Maya Moore’s emergence in 2012 and Tina Thompson’s retirement in 2013. So with another 10 years under their belt, the WNBA has many wondering what’s coming next.
WHAT DO YOU THINK: What can we expect to see in the women’s game this next decade? How will the retirement of long-time greats affect the game? Are these younger players, like Elena Delle Donne and Skylar Diggins bringing a new brand of basketball to the WNBA? If so, is it good for the future of the league?
