With the support of numerous donors, the 2nd Annual Awesome Sports Writing Contest will inspire conversation about girls’ and women’s sports and showcase your thoughtful reflections, stories, and epiphanies. From now until February 15, 2018, submit your experiences for a chance to win up to $300 cash and see your words in a feature publication. We welcome youth (18 & under) and adult writers to compete in their separate categories.

We are excited to welcome this year’s celebrity judge, Rebecca Lowe. She is the sport broadcaster of NBC Sports’ exclusive coverage of the Premier League in the United States, as well as part of the NBC Olympics Hosting team for the four Summer and Winter Games. Prior to NBC, Rebecca became the first woman in the UK to host the FA CUP Final for ESPN. She has also reported soccer for Setanta and BBC.

Dennis Norris – a 2017 MacDowell Colony Fellow, a 2016 Tin House Scholar, and a 2015 Kimbilio Fiction Fellow. His work appears or is forthcoming in Bound Off, Madcap Review, SmokeLong Quarterly, Awesome Sports Project, Apogee Journal, paper nautilus, and Hello Mr. He is a 2017 Pushcart Prize nominee and holds degrees from Sarah Lawrence College and Haverford College. He is currently the Fiction Editor at Apogee Journal and co-hosts the popular podcast Food 4 Thot. He lives and works in Harlem.

Leisl Veach – Leisl Veach is a freelance writer and communications consultant based in Seattle, WA. She is the creator and co-host of the sports podcast Witnessing Greatness, which focuses on a balance between mainstream sports and stories that highlight LGBTQ athletes and issues. She is also an avid athlete, board game enthusiast, and holds a PhD in English from the University of Washington.

Sonya Elliott – a writer, a basketball coach, a fashion model, a wife and a mom. Her memoir, Back on the Court: A Young Woman’s Triumphant Return to Life, Love and Basketball, is her story of surviving and thriving after tragedy. Sonya blogs about writing, basketball and life at www.sonyaelliott.com, and is currently working on a young adult novel.
